- Durham School Dubai is a genuine branch school of Durham School UK, which is one of the oldest schools in England with a 600 year history of academic excellence. Durham School Dubai works closely with Durham School UK to maintain the same ethos and standards. In order to affect this, our Dubai school has an annual inspection by Durham School UK to ensure that it is truly representative of the historic home school.
- At Durham School Dubai, our curriculum is guided by the UK’s Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework and English National Curriculum. In Years 10 and 11 our pupils study for IGCSE examinations in a range of subjects, leading to A-levels in our 6th form.
- We believe that high quality teaching underpinned by individual attention can only be delivered effectively if the classes are small. For that reason, our maximum class size throughout the school is 20, and currently our average class size is 13.
- Our extensive co-curricular programme includes sporting, artistic, academic, and musical opportunities. We believe that co-curricular opportunities enrich and develop the individual, fostering skills such as leadership, collaboration and teamwork.
- We select our teachers very carefully, all highly trained, predominantly from the UK. Each of them has the requisite experience and a track record in bringing the best out of their pupils.
- Durham School provides a quintessentially British education to an internationally diverse range of families. This means focus on social skills, good manners, kindness, and cooperation alongside academic aspiration. Our pupils’ behaviour is exceptional with all children eager to meet our high expectations. A Durham education inspires, nurtures and encourages pupils through the provision of the finest quality teaching coupled with extensive opportunities to enable them to achieve. Our pupils are encouraged to think creatively, to apply knowledge and skills successfully and imaginatively, and to constantly challenge themselves in a positive and supportive environment. For details on our subjects and courses kindly download our brochure.
- At Durham we take pride in the quality of our Arabic teaching for both native Arabic speakers and for pupils who are learning the language. In addition to Arabic, pupils from Y1 upwards are taught French and from August 2024, Spanish will be added to our curriculum. In the senior school pupils are studying for French, Spanish and Arabic IGCSEs.
- As a school in Dubai Durham is determined to offer exceptional teaching of Arabic. For our native Arabic speakers the school follows the Ministry of Education syllabus and for pupils learning the language, our bespoke curriculum is designed to be relevant and modern, strongly focussed on ensuring our pupils learn a living language that they can use outside of the school environment. Our pupils learn Arabic through the development of four key skills: speaking, listening, reading and writing. Pupils in Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 3 will have specialist Arabic lessons four times in a week.
